Channel 56 a day at the beach!

Channel 56 girls are certainly going to be worn out tonight after such an exciting day!  They spent the morning doing Project Adventure.  They did the Jacob's Ladder again and girls that did not have a chance to go on Tuesday got a chance to go today.  Girls also got a chance to go again if they wanted.  They headed up to the house for a bit before coming back down to the lodge to load up the bus for Mentor Headlands.  Out there they will swim, play and have a BBQ!  Hotdogs and fixings anyone?  Tonight they will come back to the lodge for s'mores, Survivor challenges and then a campout here at Butler!

In the morning pancakes are on the menu!!

Daring Campers Camouflage Themselves for Hide and Seek!

The Daring Campers had another fun day of games and detective work!  The highlight was definitely using their camouflage headbands they made on Tuesday for a game of hide and seek in the woods!  In the afternoon they did project adventure!  The campers are really getting into the challenge by choice and stepping up to the plate to challenge themselves more!

Tomorrow is BACKWARDS day!  Everyone is very excited!

Magic Tree House Campers Rattle Thursday!

The Tree House campers kept up with their wild west theme and made rattlesnakes today!  They also swam at the pool, played with a GIANT ball, went to the creek, went to the playground, hiked and played tons of games!  What an exhausting day!

Field Trips Galore!

Wednesday was field trip day for EVERYONE on Butler Campus... here are the highlights!

Magic Tree House Goes to Maypine Farm to ride horses and learn about horse grooming!  The campers learned so many new things about horses and their care.  At the end we all got water bottles and a certificate for a complementary private lesson!  How fun!

Daring Campers went to the Russell Police and Fire Station!  At the Police Station campers got to look around at what real detectives use to solve crimes.  Campers loved when they each got fingerprinted!  After the police station, campers headed to the fire station where they got to see all the gear that firemen use when fighting fires!

Channel 56 campers headed all the way out to Kent, OH where they went canoeing!  Although challenging and tiring, these SURVIVOR girls were up for the challenge!  They successfully completed a 4.5 mile canoe trip on the Cuyahoga River!  At the end of their journey they ate a well deserved lunch at a park!  Unfortunately due to the wet nature of canoeing there are no pictures available.

Channel 56 Makes it to the Top!

Channel 56 did some really exciting things today!  The most exciting happened during Project Adventure when the girls were on an element called Jacobs Ladder!  A team of 2 girls made it all the way to the top making them the youngest girls to ever reach that high on the element!  Most older girls don't even make it that high!  The groups also worked on other challenges today including Reward Challenges and Point Challenges.  For Reward Challenges the two tribes, Half Moon Tribe and Bosco, work to earn a reward for both teams.  In Point Challenges tribes are competeing to win the chance to decide to keep their points or have the other team lose points.  There is a catch though, and that is that if they decide to have the other tribe lose points their team must also lose a few of their own points.  It forces the girls to be strategic.  As one of the Reward Challenges today girls had to gather and set up materials for a fire (they didn't really start one themselves).  As a group they made a fire in our fire pit and as a reward roasted marshmallows!  Tasty!

Tomorrow is our field trip to Crooked River.  Please make sure consent forms are in!!  See you then!

Daring Camp Riddles and More!

The boys and girls of Daring Camp are having so much fun being detectives and doing all things spy related!  The highlight of today was definitely Project Adventure.  The campers were able to successfully do the Mohawk Walk and the Whale Watch.  It is great to watch them work together as a team.  The instructors allow the campers to do most the strategic planning and brainstorming.  The Daring Campers also enjoyed making camoflauge hats that they will use later in the week as they play Hide and Seek in the woods.  Some of the other activities campers did today were various games including Zip Zap.  Ask your camper how they played that game!

Tomorrow is our tour of the Russell Police and Fire Station!  We cannot wait!

Magic Tree House Pans for Gold

The Magic Tree House campers are really into their theme this week!  After swimming they came back to work on group murals of the Wild West.  They talked about the kinds of things you would have found back then and that time period.  After reading their book in the tree house, they headed down to the creek where gold coins had mysteriously appeared in the creek bed and on the shore!  The campers really enjoyed looking for gold among the rocks and mud!

Tomorrow they go to Maypine Farm!  Please make sure your consent form is in!  The campers will be going to the farm for about an hour and a half.  They will have a chance to ride horses with a guide leading the horse and a spotter walking next to them.  They will also learn about horse care and grooming!  See you then!

Gator Train LOVES the Playground!

Thankfully, the rain held off!
It was a perfect playground day!

Channel 56: Survivor

The girls of Channel 56 are really excited for our Survivor week!  The girls began by splitting into two tribes to do challenges throughout the day.  The girls really enjoyed the knot tying challenge!  After challenges girls met at tribal council to vote on winners.  Each tribe also tie-dyed buffs that they will wear later in the week.  At the end of the day, campers played an exciting game of capture the flag in their tribes!  It seems like it is going to be a really fun week!

A consent form was sent home today with your camper.  These two sheets must be filled out, signed and returned by Wednesday for our field trip.  Girls without a consent form will not be able to go on the field trip.

Thursday, June 30th is our Channel 56: Survivor Camp Out!  An email was sent out with details!

See you tomorrow!

Magic Tree House: Ghost Town at Sundown

This week Magic Tree House campers head to the Wild West as they read the book Ghost Town at Sundown, which follows Jack and Annie as they embark on one of their many famous adventures!  The campers were delighted to make and decorate their very own cowboy hat.  These cowboy hats are unlike any you have ever seen though with feathers and jewels and glitter!  The campers were excited to head to the creek and playground and then up to the tree house to read some chapters from the book.  At the end of the day they cooled off with Daring Camp with a water balloon toss!

Tomorrow is swimming, campers should wear their bathing suit under their clothes, bring a towel and bring a change of clothes.

A consent form was sent home with your camper today for their field trip to Maypine Farm.  It must be completed and signed by Wednesday for your camper to participate.  Thanks in advance!

Daring Camp: Dare to be a Detective!

Daring campers started off the day by making mini notebooks that they will use throughout the week as they Dare to be Detectives!  After making their notebooks each camper drew the name of another camper that they would have to observe throughout the day without the other person knowing.  This allows them to hone in on their spy skills.  While heading down to the creek they became nature detectives observing plants and animal tracks.  Later in the day they each made a disguise for him or herself which might include but is certainly not limited to, glasses, mustaches, beards, moles and even elf ears! The campers played several games that made them use their fantastic observational skills like Dr vs Virus and wax museum.  Finally at the end of the day they joined Magic Tree House Campers for a water balloon toss!  What a fun day!

Swimming tomorrow, so bathing suits should be worn under clothes and campers should bring a towel and a change of clothes!

Gator Train - Life on the Farm

The Gator Train has left the station and we are all about Life on the Farm this week! We welcome back our returning campers and welcome our new campers as well! Groups are divided into ducks, sheep and horses...ask your little one which group he/she is in!

This week's teachers are Miss Franks, Mrs. Farley and Mrs. Porris. The kids will rotate through the "whistle stops" with each teacher. Mrs. Porris brought some fun songs and movement today. She even brought some cute little finger puppets. Miss Franks and Mrs. Farley helped the campers decorate the bags they will use for the week to gather their creations and to make farm animal puppets of their very own.

It's been a great Monday and we are looking forward to a fun-filled week!
