It's the Last Day of Camp!!

Goodbye 2011 Summer at Laurel Camp Season it's been fantastic!  I can hardly believe that today was our LAST DAY!! It went out with a wet bang as we spent most of the afternoon playing water games and in the sprinklers!  We also ventured to the creek and Magic Tree House.  Daring Camp finished up their shelters and started a fire in the fire pit where they roasted marshmallows and made smores!  All and all it was a great ending to camp!  SEE YOU NEXT YEAR!!

LAST THURSDAY!!

Can you believe today was our last Thursday of the 2011 summer??  This means it was our last swimming day and Daring Camp's last project adventure!  We had a blast swimming today as Miss Maggie and Miss Jessie joined in with some fantastic jumping contests!  Back at camp we were up to our usual camp fun- like creek walking and hiking.  Daring Camp is working on shelters in the woods which we will keep photograph tomorrow!

Our Freaky Friday Beach day is bound to be our best as we plan on spending the afternoon playing in the sprinklers, playing water games and enjoying all the friendships we have made this summer!  It's been awesome!!!

Punderson and Peninsula

Today was field trip day!!  Magic Tree House campers spent the day at Punderson State Park and Daring Campers spent the day biking in Peninsula.  The Magic Tree House Campers pretended to be in Hawaii as they splashed in the Punderson Lake, sunbathed, built sandcastles and burried themselves in the sand.  After a day of fun in the sun we stopped at Two Coneheads Ice Cream on Kinsman Road for the most delicious ice cream cones!  Each camper has a free cone gift certificate so that your family can go back before the end of summer!!  What a great day for all!!

Dare to Survive!

Daring Campers are loving our survivalist theme!!  Today they talked more about shelters and went into the woods to create small shelters that an animal could survive  in!  They spent a lot of time with Project Adventure this afternoon as they continue to push themselves to the limit!  The campers love spending so much time outdoors and today was the most perfect day!  No rain and not too hot!

Don't forget!  Tomorrow we bike in Peninsula.  Campers should bring bikes, a helmet, and a backpack with their things inside that they can manage to camp tomorrow!

**THE FIELD TRIP MAY RETURN A LITTLE LATE WHICH WILL MAKE THE SHUTTLE TO LYMAN A LITTLE LATE AS WELL.  THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR UNDERSTANDING!**

Hawaiian Times

The Magic Tree House campers were busy today, dreaming and learning about Hawaii!  In the morning, they imagined they were swimming in the Pacific Ocean off Hawaii (don't they have spectacular imaginations?)!  When arriving back to the Big Island of Hawaii (aka Butler Campus) they learned about the island chains and made leis to wear!  The rain held off and we were able to make a trip down to the creek and to the tree house to hear more about Jack and Annie's magical adventure!

Don't forget our field trip tomorrow!! Campers should wear their bathing suit to camp- we will be beaching all day!  Sunscreen is required!  There was a half-slip sent home today with specifics.  Also, please keep in mind that should the lake be unsuitable for swimming we will go to Punderson State Park for the same activities.

**THE SHUTTLE TO LYMAN MAY ARRIVE LATE TOMORROW AFTERNOON- THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR UNDERSTANDING!**

Dare to be Suvivalists!

The Daring Campers began their final week with the theme Dare to be Survivalists!  This morning they talked about what things your would need to survivie in the woods and what it means to be a survivalist.  Before treking out in the woods, campers used duck tape (a very handy material) to make a water bottle holder that he or she can use for the rest of the week.  The campers were also split into two teams that they will keep for the remainder of the week- The Ohio Hunters and the Dynamite Tigers.  In their respective groups, campers were challenged to hide letters and create a map to help guide others to the letter they hid.  Later in the day campers had to use the maps to locate the hidden letters and spell out a word.  The two words ended up being related to suvivalists- compass and shelter.   At the end of the day the teams competed against each other in a game of kickball!

Don't forget, tomorrow is swimming!  Wear your bathing suit to camp and bring a towel and a change of clothes!

High Tide in Hawaii

Aloha!  This week's Magic Tree House campers are feeling Hawaiian as they read High Tide in Hawaii!  In the morning they made sea shell picture frames using shells and silk flowers.  They listened to some real Hawaiian music (both contemporary and traditional) and even tried to hula a little!  For fun, the campers made wands this morning out of sticks and wire because the Magic Tree House books are so magical.  The campers also managed to go to the tree house and creek today which are always very fun!  In the afternoon we played a lot of new and fun group games- including kickball with the Daring Camp.

Tomorrow is swimming, so make sure you wear your bathing suit and bring a towel and change of clothes!  See you then!

Daring Inventors

Our Daring Inventors finished up this week with a blast!  The campers enjoyed, hiking in the woods, playing a game of kickball together, finishing up the board games they invented, having popcorn and playing other people's board games, doing Project Adventure and finally with some water balloon fun at the end of the day with Magic Tree House Camp.  The boys and girls really got creative with their board games and loved playing with their friends on their own game and others- the popcorn didn't hurt either!  I have to say that some of the games were really elaborate and well thought out; with some pretty catchy names!  During Project Adventure they worked as a team on the Tee-Pee Shuffle, Whale Watch and Nitro-Crossing.  Finally as a cool ending to the day they played with water balloons!

We hope to see many of you back for our final week, but if not we wish you a great rest of the summer and a very happy start to what is going to be a fantastic school year!
